Profit for Geraldine R.C.
The retiring president of the Geraldine Racing Club, Mr Bill Burden, announced a profit of $20,640 for the 1986-87 season at the annual meeting on Monday evening.
Mr Burdon hailed the result as a sign that the club was over the problems which had dogged it in the last few years and paid a special tribute to his committee, members and the racecourse trustees for their contribution.
Increased sponsorship and gate income, the latter as a result of much higher public patronage, played a major role in the
profitable result. A loss of over $9OOO had been posted the previous year. Mr Burdon noted that the club now had only one day of racing but that it had proved it was viable in such a situation. He thanked the secretary, David Lloyd, and the staff of the Canterbury Jockey Club for their part in the resurgence of the fortunes of the club. Mr Burdon offered his best wishes to the incoming president, Mr Eric Peters, expressing confidence he would receive the full support of all members in his new position.
