Fund-raising ‘hard’ for volunteer groups
Fund-raising is proving difficult for many voluntary organisations in Christchurch, says the Christchurch Marriage Guidance Council’s new co-director, Ms Kay Brosnan. “A lot of voluntary organisations are really feeling the squeeze at the moment,” she said. It was harder for voluntary agencies, such as marriage guidance, which received some Government funding. This often made them ineligible for other funding. Ms Brosnan, who re-
cently joined marriage guidance in Christchurch as co-director responsible for education, said the courses run by the organisation were popular. Many individuals, couples, and families attended. But at present the council could provide only “bread and butter” courses because they needed more tutors. Tutors, who were trained over two yeas, volunteered their time. Often the council lost the tutors to paid employment after they finished their training. Ms Brosnan said.
