Auckland power lines blown down
PA Auckland Several parts of Auckland and surrounding districts were without electricity for periods yesterday when high winds brought down power lines. Power board spokesmen said cuts occurred in Torbay, Dairy Flat, Kaipara Flats, Beachlands and Maraetai.
The eastern end of Waiheke Island was without power for most of the day after two spans of
high-voltage line came down in an area inaccessible to vehicles. Rain brought by the moist easterly winds flooded the futures exchange information centre, on the ground floor of the Stock Exchange. The centre was closed all day. Meanwhile, a Counties Racing Club race meeting at Pukekohe was postponed for a week because the track was flooded.
