A THE WELLWGTON REGIONAL COUNCIL THE WELLINGTON REGIONAL COUNCIL TRANSPORT PLANNING APPOINTMENTS The Wellington Regional Council is about to commence a major study of Transport and Land Use strategies for the Greater Wellington Area. Designated the GATS Study, the project will provide ongoing professional challenges for qualified and experienced transport planners. The initial phase is expected to involve a minimum of four years to complete. To carry out the GATS study, the Council requires three professional Transport Planners. Details of individual appointments .are briefly outlined below. The study team, being responsible for developing and impementing plans to achieve set objectives within specified parameters, must be prepared to use initiative and innovation in their approach. Extensive use of consultants for specific tasks is also envisaged. Applicants require at least a degree level qualification with practical experience in Transport Planning. Extensive use of computer modelling is envisaged and experience in this field is essential. The positions offered are: PROJECT LEADER Reporting to the Regional Transport Manager, the GATS Project Leader has prime responsibilities for the orderly completion of the Study. Management of the Study includes — • The establishment and maintenance of data and modelling systems: • Monitoring, reviewing and periodically reporting progress: • Developing and implementing plans. Applicants require at least five years proven experience in Transport Planning and closely related fields and the ability to provide leadership to the team TRANSPORT PLANNER Reporting to the Project Leader, this position has prime responsibilities in planning, developing and implementing specific tasks related to the Study Programme including transport network development, data collection, the establishment and maintenance of transport data bases and computer modelling. Applicants require at least three years post qualification experience in Transport Planning and the ability to identify and implement appropriate decisions to achieve the completion of the Study. PLANNER Reporting to the Manager Planning Services, this appointment has major involvement in the GATS study. In the initial stages the successful applicant will have responsibilities within the GATS team for assisting with: • The preparation and implementation of the urban development strategy: • The development of a land use model: • Developing appropriate outputs for use in the study; • Evaluating land use. social and economic implications of proposals developed during the study. Applicants require at least three years relevant planning experience and the ability to work compatibly in small multi-disciplinary team. These three appointments provide a unique opportunity for motivated transport planners to take a leading role in their field.
