Stable quinella likely in Karensky Cup

Special correspondent Auckland March Sea and Norfolk King give their owner-trainer, Rick Church, the chance of a notable stable quinella on his home track at the Counties Racing Club’s meeting at Pukekohe today. With his easy, last-start win at Avondale, March Sea is certainly in the right form for the Karensky Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double. Norfolk King, a five-year-old also, has the ability to race well, as he showed on the heavy tracks of last winter and early spring. Not long back from a spell, Norfolk King showed up promisingly when fourth behind Stellar Gold, Tough Guy and Roubles in a class 2 2000-metres at Ellerslie a week ago. March Sea’s Avondale win was in the 2000 m Founders’ Handicap, a race won by Norfolk King 12 months previously, and it could not have been achieved more easily. He cleared away to win by four lengths. March Sea had been hurdling and managed a string of minor placings over jumps. Ankerette and Kimberley Road are two form horses March Sea and Norfolk

King have to beat Another is Call Me Kiwi. Ankerette which is also on her home track, did not have much to spare when winning last time, over Little Regal in a 2000 m at Avondale on June 27, but she ran on generously after running wide around the home turn. Kimberley Road, a four-year-old from Levin, will be going for a hat-trick of wins, having won a 2000 m at Trentham last Wednesday, after a 2060 m highweight at Wanganui. Sir Zeus, from New Plymouth, has been expensive in his two starts on this northern trip, gaining a second at Rotorua and then a fifth at Ellerslie last Tuesday. But he is worth another chance. Rapid March, after a good 1200 m double at the Avondale winter meeting, looks the one to beat in the second leg of the T.A.B. double, the South Auckland Petfoods Sprint. He won nicely each time at Avondale and appears one of the better young horses of the winter. Bold Tango and Just Reward have been racing well and Lindo Cheval, a stablemate of Kimberley Road, has been showing enough form in her home district to merit attention.
