Assembly of Sport given $37,000

A national sports body, the Assembly of Sport, was given a grant of $37,000 last week by the Hillary Commission for Recreation and Sport. The assembly would have a big role to play in the future development of sport in New Zealand, said the commission’s chairman, Sir Ronald Scott, at a meeting of the assembly in Wellington. The assembly is made up of representatives of sports bodies throughout New Zealand, and is an advisory body to the Hillary Commission. Through the assembly,

the commission’s policy making would be influenced by information from people who knew and participated in sport, said Sir Ronald.

The $37,000 grant is to allow the assembly to function. The funding for sport throughout New Zealand will come from the. commission.

Sir Ronald said the assembly would help the vital communication system between clubs and decision-makers advising on the distribution of resources and isolating problems facing sport.
