Rhodes Colossus find?
NZPA-Reuter Athens Greek archaeologists will study fragments that may have come from the Colossus of Rhodes statue, one of the ancient wonders of the world, the Greek Marine Minister, Stathis Alexandrls, said. Speaking at a press conference Mr Alexandrls said the objects would be examined by specialists after they were hauled up from the sea. The search for the remains of the Colossus was sparked by a Dutch-born clairvoyant, Ann Dankbaar, now living in Australia, who led divers to where the items were found. The Colossus was a 31metre high, metallic statue representing the sun and was placed at tie entrance to the island’s harbour in 280 B.C. It was toppled by an earthquake in 225 B.C.
