Relieving teachers sought

PA Wellington A campaign aimed at recruiting more relieving teachers to help ease shortages in some primary schools will be launched by the Education Department.

The Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, said some boards were having difficulty obtaining relieving teachers, particularly into the second term when demand was traditionally high.

Some funds for advertising and the provision of short retraining programmes would be made available. Mr Marshall said the Government expected to consider a recommendation later this year on levels of support for all tertiary trainees and students, Including teacher trainees. Submissions on the issue were still being collated, he said.
