Access courses approved
The Canterbury Regional Employment and Access Council approved 32 Access training courses at a meeting on Tuesday. The courses offer 355 training places for disadvantaged and unemployed people, although some have conditions of approval.
Ten of the courses are aimed at young, unemployed Maori people and five are specifically for women.
The courses are: Seven concurrent courses under Waitaha Te Kohanga Reo, for 70 trainees, to the end of the financial year; Rangiora Te Kohanga Reo, six trainees, to the end of the financial year; Christchurch Polytechnic, courses in literacy, industrial sewing, women in metal trades, women in timber and construction, basic decorating, recep-tion-retail, building and construction, catering, job-search skills, and jobsearch group. Courses at the Y.M.C.A., Ferrymead, the Canterbury Women’s Employment Trust, Mangu Waiata, and Ko O Ringa were also approved.
