Comment draws no complaint
NZPA-AAP Sydney Australian Rugby Union chief executive, Mr John Dedrick, yesterday said the A.R.U. had not received any complaint from the council of the New Zealand Rugby Union over comments made by Wallaby coach, Alan Jones. Mr Jones was alleged to have called a Kiwi World Cup organiser, Dion Littlejohn, “an obtrusive turd” over an incident in Rotorua after the play-off for third and fourth positions.
Mr Dedrick said: “New Zealand haven’t made any complaint over the alleged incident — if one did come in then Alan Jones would be given the right of reply.”
The N.Z.R.U. was expected to write to the A.R.U. seeking an explanation of Mr Jones’ behaviour. During the hearing of Wallaby flanker David Codey, who had been ordered off five minutes into the match against Wales, Mr Jones said he wanted to represent Codey but was told he would be unable to do so. He then allegedly verbally abused the N.Z.R.U. official.
