Hospital Board Appointments DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY PRINCESS ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from medical practitioners for the position of Deputy Director of Diagnostic Radiology in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Princess Alexandra Hospital. Applicants must have qualifications allowing them-to be registered in the specialty of Radiology in the State of Queensland. The successful applicant would be expected to have a special interest in the areas of radiology outside invasive procedures to complement the other Deputy Director who has a responsibility for these special examinations. The successful applicant would be expected to be involved in: Plain radiography Mammography Non-invasive procedures Ultrasound Nuclear Radiology Computerised tomography There will also be a need to be sufficiently familiar with invasive procedures to be able to take part in a radiological after-hours roster covering all areas. GENERAL INFORMATION: Princess Alexandra Hospital is a major teaching hospital of 1200 beds associated with the University of Queensland. All specialties except obstetrics, paediatrics and cardiac surgery are represented. There are at present 6 full-time radiologists and 8 visiting radiologists appointed. There are 6 radiology registrars in training. The Department of Diagnostic Radiology performs approximately 90,000 examinations per year of which 1500 are invasive procedures. State of the art C.T. scanning, ultrasound and nuclear radiology are available within the Department. It is one of five sites in which M.R.I. is to be evaluated. An M.R.L unit is presently being installed. Remuneration will be $Au5t60,854.90 consisting of base salary plus an on call allowance. Call-ins attract additional payment. Right of private practice up to sAustls,ooo per annum is permitted. Conditions of service include five weeks annual leave, sick leave, conference leave and long service leave. The department would look favourably on applicants with special interests in neuroradiology or nuclear medicine. Masterton Hospital is a 200-bed base hospital servicing the Wairarapa area of around 45,000 population. Both appointees would be part of a team of four anaesthetists. The work load includes 4-5 elective lists per week, a commitment to a small ICU unit, and participation in a one in three week-end call roster. Most major surgical disciplines are represented on the staff with three general surgeons, a gynaecologist and opthalmologist resident in Masterton. Situated in the south-east of the North Island, Masterton offers a wide variety of leisure and sporting pursuits, easy access to the North Island skifields, and opportunities for a semi-rural lifestyle. The capital city, Wellington, is 1W hours by road. A wide choice of quality schooling is available. Applicants must hold a medical qualification registrable in New Zealand. Applicants for the full time consultant position must hold higher qualifications enabling their admission to the New Zealand Specialists Register. Applicants having substantial anaesthetic experience short of fully recognised New Zealand specialist registration will be considered for the locum position. SALARY: Specialist Anaesthetist, $52,600-$64,000 Locum Anaesthetist, $28,970-$38,800 Assistance may be offered with travel and removal expenses, subject to suitable bonding. Accommodation at reasonable rental will be available for the duration of the locum position, and for the first 12 months of the appointment for the consultant position.
