Our client, part of a major Australian public group, is the leading manufacturer/supplier in its particular consumer durable markets in Australia. Its modern, high volume factories provide top quality products at internationally competitive prices. The company's products are reasonably well established in New Zealand. However, with the phasing out of import quotas and duties under CER, there is quite enormous scope for the company to secure substantial gains in market share here. Hence the decision to set up a branch in NZ. The appointee will be responsible to the Australian-based General Manager for selection of premises, recruitment of staff (sales, administration, warehouse), establishment of distribution arrangements and thereafter achievement of sales/market share objectives. This will include management of sales, pricing, advertising and other marketing strategies as well as of inventory, ordering, debtors and general administration. The position carries accountability for branch profit. Australian executives will assist in development of strategic plans and installation of administrative systems. The position calls for a self-motivated sales executive with a demonstrably successful record, preferably in a consumer durable industry. Experience managing a sales branch or other profit centre would be of advantage. Age from about 30 years to a flexible maximum.
