Tariki Nth 1A is dry
PA Wellington The Tariki North 1A well, in eastern Taranaki, is to be abandoned as a dry hole, Petrocop said yesterday. During the last week the well was deepened from 2846 metres to 3208 metres.
Hydrocarbon shows were recorded over the interval 2900 metres to 3208 metres. The interval 2904 metres to 3023 metres was cored, and the well was electrically logged at 3208 metres, Petrocorp said. Evaluation of the logs showed the reservoir to be water-saturated and it was decided to plug and
abandon the well as a dry hole.
Tariki North 1A was spudded on May 9, Petrocorp said. Partners in the venture are the Ministry of Energy, 38.36 per cent; Petrocorp, 28.34 per cent; Payzone Exploration nl, 17.5 per cent, Southern Petroleum nl, 5.1 per cent; Nomeco NZ Exploration Co., 5 per cent; Bligh Oil and Minerals, 2 per cent; Carpentaria Exploration Co (NZ), Ltd, 2 per cent; Petrocorp Exploration (Taranaki), Ltd, 1.7 per cent. Meanwhile, the Toropuihi 1 well, offshore 104 km north of Westport,
was at a depth of 1172 metres at 6 a.m. yesterday, Amoco New Zealand Exploration Co nl told the Stock Exchange. At report time workers were running a 13% inch casing. The well had been electrically logged in a 17% inch hole section, but no hydrocarbon shows were found.
Amoco, with a 79.9 per cent interest in Toropuihi 1, located in PPL3BOSB, is the operator on behalf of the other partners. The Ministry of Energy has an 11 per cent interest and the remainder is held by NZ Oil and Gas, Ltd, and Oil Fields nl.
