Nothing heard from tramper
Nothing has yet been heard from a Christchurch tramper who set off to walk in the Milford Sound area a fortnight ago.
Mr Philip Hawe, aged 23, left a tent and some camping gear at a Te Anau camping ground on June 12, but has not returned.
He told camp staff he intended walking tracks in the Milford area.
Senior-Sergeant Don Wisley, of Invercargill, said the police were becoming more worried about Mr Hawe.
“He hasn’t left any real intentions or accurate indication where he may be.
"It is a bit strange. He
has been away for a while and if he has been walking some tracks he should have been out by now.”
Asked whether the police were considering a search, he said, “It would be a waste of manpower unless we had some idea he was in a particular area.
“If we knew he has walked on a particular track we would have a look.
"At the moment, until we get some line like that, it is a bit futile.” Mr Hawe left his flatmates with no definite date for his return, but was expected back in Christchurch earlier this week.
