Shaky future for trust
The Paparua Prospect Trust, an organisation which has been successful in helping job seekers find employment, faces a shaky future after the withdrawal of Government subsidies. The community recreation adviser to the Paparua County Council’s reserves and recreation committee, Mr Peter Walls, said last evening that the trust was still providing an excellent service, but the withdrawal of Government subsidies for the co-ordi-nator had put it in a tenuous position.
While the trust could live on its reserves for a year, its future beyond that was shaky. . Cr Jack Pethig said it was short-sighted of the Govenrment to create a situation where a viable service for job seekers could be closed through lack of funds. “It is an incongruous and stupid situation,” he said. Councillors said they feared there would be little they could do to prevent the trust from closing, but any possibilities would be explored.
