Language on trade good—Mr Moore
PA Wellington New Zealand received “as much as we can expect” from the Venice summit talks, said the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, yesterday. , Canada, the only member of the Cairns group of agricultural producers at the talks, represented New Zealand’s concerns. The outcome was all the Cairns group had planned for at its recent meeting in Ottawa, he said. “The language on trade is good. It is . strong on protectionism.”
Conclusions on agriculture were also encourag-
ing. “The heads of Government of the seven most powerful nations outside the Communist bloc have endorsed the commitment on agricultural reform made at last month’s O.E.C.D. Ministerial council meeting,” he said. The importance of the marketplace as a determinant of prices and production levels has been properly emphasised. It was the first time the O.E.C.D. had treated agriculture as an Industry, Mr Moore said. . “We expect before the end of the year the sub-, stantial issues will be on. the table for negotiation.”
