‘Big red’ help
Sir,—lt came as a reassurance when the Christchurch Transport Board announced that the “big reds” might be flagged down in emergencies. However, it was no surprise to me that their radio control could be of help to the public. On March 13 I had . to travel to the airport, requiring a connection in the Square. Unfortunately, owing to a breakdown, the “in” bus was running late, but the driver, on hearing of my predicament, contacted the “out” driver, who waited for me. Now that was heart-warming in these days of “couldn’t care less.” In all fair- / ness, I should add that I always receive courtesy from a section of the workforce who must be sorely tried at times.—Yours, etc. E. McLEOD. June 7, 1987. .
