Hamburger cause of baby’s blindness
NZPA-AAP London A baby was bom blind and brain-damaged because his mother ate a partly cooked hamburger at a barbeque, according to a newpaper report The report said that Sheila Yarrow, aged 28, caught a flu-like disease, toxoplasmosis, from eating the under-cooked - meat . Her son, Tom, now five months old, was bora severely handicapped.
“I would warn all pregnant women to be sure that the meat they are eating Is well cooked or to avoid meat altogether, especially if they Hie barbeques or continental cooking,” Ms Yarrow said. She was 12 weeks pregnant when she contracted ’ the disease, which can be caught from cats and dogs as well as from raw or under-cooked meat.; « Doctors ottered her an abortion but she refused.
