After the loan offer was announced, the response was slow, although this may have been at least partly due to holdups in damage assessments. The centre will continue to press the Government for compensation without tags for the earthquake victims. Lorraine Brill said the centre has already set up a system to distribute the money if and when it comes through. “It would lift morale so much if we cbuld say we had the money at no interest,” she said.
