Dynamic business woman
Mention Kawerau, and many people immediately think of the Tasman Pulp and Paper Mill, and its blotted history of industrial disputes. Not many would have heard of the Kawerau Enterprise Agency, or the dynamo of a woman
who heads the Bay of Plenty’s latest business venture.
That woman is Bev Adlam, mother of five and the Sperry/More Businesswoman of the Year 1986.
Being made the executive director of K.E.A. was a big step for Adlam,
as she had never held a full-time job before taking up the position in April, 1985. Her commitment, though, is to Kawerau, its people and its future. With the support of Tasman and the local business community, K.E.A. has been given the task
of attracting new industries to Kawerau.
Tomorrow (Sunday), the “Koha” reporter, Lawrence Wharerau, talks to Adlam and members of the local community to find out more about the “Bev Adlam factor.” “Koha” screens at 7.45 p.m. on One.
