Inn switches to gas
PA Wellington A Rotorua hotel, the Quality Inn, has switched to natural gas for all its energy after relying on thermal bores since it opened in the early 19705.
The move is a contribution to help save the Pohutu Geyser, according to the manager, Mr Harry Salisbury. Mr Salisbury
said the switchover had cost $300,000 in engineering fees and the installation of new hotwater boilers, and on an annual basis running costs would increase by $65,000. But if the Pohutu geyser and other bores had been allowed to run down an important tourist attraction could have been eliminated, he said.
