Remit calls for Extax rejection
A call to reject the National Party’s Extax policy is among the remits for discussion at the New Zealand Young Nationals annual conference at Akaroa this weekend.
Delegates from throughout New Zealand are attending three days of forums, discussions and remit sessions. A series of forums will discuss New Zealand’s foreign policy, education, and law and order — discussions which will be addressed by senior Opposition members including Miss Ruth Richardson and Messrs Warren Cooper and John Banks.
A keynote address by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger, will open the conference this morn-
ing. The remits cover a range of topics, including a call from the Wellington Young Nationals for a National Government to support the concept of a regionalised defence alliance based in the Pacific Basin and South-East Asia.
In a series of remits on taxation, the Auckland and Otago-Southland branches call for the rejection of Extax, an investigation into other forms of indirect taxation, and the introduction of a flat rate of taxation for all New Zealanders.
The Canterbury-West-land delegates have tabled a remit calling for a housing policy which encourages private sector
