Good response to poll roll

Wellington reporter More than 80 per cent of electors have completed re-enrolment for this year’s General Election, said the Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, yesterday. The roll stood at 1,696,345 on May 15, and reminder cards were now being sent to 383,127 registered electors who had not yet responded to the re-enrolment campaign. “Some people think that because their cards are correct they do noi have

to send them back. “That is incorrect. In the last General Election 37,500 votes were disallowed because people were not on the rolls,” Mr Palmer said.

Specific re-enrolment campaigns were being waged in 24 electorates, including all four Maori seats, where the response rate was less than 76 per cent. Rolls will close on June 5 for checking, but will be available from June 29 for public inspection.
