$20 million ‘exotic’ facelift for BNZ
The $2O million facelift for the Bank of New Zealand building in Cathedral Square should take about a year, says Mr Paul Williams, a building contractor engaged in the refurbishment. Mr Murray Kilty, a quantity surveyor in the bank development, said the building would be very “exotic.” The architect who designed the refitting work is Mr lan Athfield, of Wellington. Mr Kilty said Mr Athfield’s work was “pretty Texotic stuff in-

The exterior will also change from its present look with a veranda around the first floor and a “tip roof.” Two top floors will be transformed into penthouse apartments. During the refurbishing the bank will be housed in the old Calder Mackay building next to “The Press” in Gloucester Street.
