Toy plane kills pilot

A hang-glider pilot plunged 70 metres to his death after a radio-con-trolled model plane crashed into him above the Sussex Downs, near Brighton. Ronald Steadman, aged 44, lost control of his craft and hurtled out of the sky, watched by his horrified wife. The chief instructor of the Sussex School of Hang-gliding, Captain John Hallam, criticised irresponsible toy-plane enthusiasts. “They let their lethal aircraft fly anywhere,” he said. Some with wing spans of almost two metres could reach speeds of 120 km/h. “Their operators have no self-discipline. They cannot tell how high or how fast their planes are going.”'
