Turner talks on fine

PA \ Wellington The suspended soccer player, Grant Turner, yesterday spoke with Miramar club officials over his refusal to pay a $5OO fine imposed on him by the New Zealand Football Association. The club had deferred any action until its appeal of the sentences is heard by the national association at a council meeting later this week. Turner was fined and placed on a 10-week suspension after a conviction in an Auckland court for damaging a vehicle be-

longing to ..the national coach, Kevin Fallon. Miramar - was also placed on a WOO good behaviour bond. Turner’s refusal toi pay the fine raises the possibility that the former international may not-be allowed to return to the game. Miramar’s club president, lan Wells, would not speculate on whether , the club would be prepared to pay the fine for Turner. ’’That’s hypothetical? Mr Wells said. “We’ll wait to hear the decision of our appeal and assess matters from there.”

General forecast: Unsettled throughout New Zealand. District forecasts: Canterbury, Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland: Cool southerlies, fresh at times, periods of rain.

Tomorrow: Clearing slowly. Extended range forecast to Sunday: Becoming fine, with moderate westerlies. Showers developing again by Sunday on the West Coast.
