in London A Frances Hodgkins oil painting sold for a record auction price of almost $200,000 in London this week. A London dealer paid £68,200 ($196,416) for "A Country Window” at a sale of landscape and other painting at Sotheby’s. The previous highest
price paid at auction for a Hodgkins was $150,000, The 61cm by 76cm painting was completed between 1929 and 1931, a period when Miss Hodgkins was in England and France. It was exhibited in London at a Frances Hodgkins exhibition in 1951 and in New Zealand in 1969 in the Arts Council Frances Hodgkins centennial exhibition.
