Tough soccer task
~ By GARY BIRKETT 'Shamrock appears to have the toughest task of the four Christchurch regional league clubs left in the Chatham Cup soccer competition when it faces the strong Mosgiel team at'-’ English Park tomorrow.
Mosgiel currently leads the Otago-Southland league and Shamrock will have, to improve on its recent displays if it is to advance to the fourth round..? .
The Shamrock coach, lain Marshall, said his team had been playing below its best despite being unbeaten in the Hertz qualifying league. He expects Mosgiel to
go all out for victory. “they will be like most Dunedin teams — aggressive and giving it 100 per cent.” Shamrock beat Riccarton, 4-1, in the second round, and Mr Marshall is hoping his leading striker, Peter Schuyt, will continue his goal scoring exploits. Schuyt scored twice in that win and has been hitting the back of the net regularly in the league competition. In the early game Technical should be too strong for Waihopai, of Invercargill, which lies in fifth place in the league. Technical upset the travelling league leaders.
Rangers, 1-0, in the second round and will only need to repeat that form to go through. The coach, Hal Upton, said all his players were fit and keen to repeat last season’s cup win over Waihopai. “We got hammered, 4-2, by Woolston last Saturday though, and will have to improve our mental attitude before tomorrow,” he said. In other matches Bumdale United travels to Invercargill to face Thistle, which is having only a moderate season, while the University of Canterbury will start favourite to beat Green Island in Dunedin. ■
