Lord Pegasus gallops well in final trial

Special correspondent Palmerston North

Lord Pegasus moved pretty well in his final trial at Awapuni yesterday morning in preparation for the Oroua Downs Handicap at Foxton tomorrow. The horse has come through his first-day race at Wellington in good style and though a failure in that event he could perform a lot better this week-end. There was little fast work yesterday with races and trials at Bulls later in the day. Most of the work took place on the plough which provided "good footing. Lord Pegasus ran 1200 m with race day rider David Walsh up. He recorded 1:20,/the last 600 m in 39s and he did his work attractively. He won’t be far away at Foxton. Mr Trick worked over two rounds, running his last 600 m in good style. He has thrived since Trentham and is in with a good chance in the N.Z. Insurance at Foxton. Barry Griffin rides him. Abyssinia was working well over 1000 m in 1:4,

the last 600 m in 38.65. She ran good races at Blenheim and has prospects in the Moutoa Handicap this week-end. Auto Air, which might resume at Hawera next week, reeled off 800 m in 525, the last 600 m in 395. He looks in good order for a fresh campaign. Kiba Darchi, a maiden prospect at Foxton, covered 1000 m in 1:8.6, the last 600 m in 40s. The horse won well at a recent trial at Bulls. Head Shepherd, on the ballot list at Foxton, took 53s for 800 metres, the last 600 m in 395. Modra Rua, a former northerner now with Noel Eales and an acceptor at Foxton, covered 800 m easily in 58s, the last 600 m in 435. On the course proper Lisa Bay, an acceptor at Foxton, ran an easy 600 m in 40s. She could be in

with a chance if the track is not too soft. Work of Art, unharmed by her race at Trentham where the track did not suit her, took , 40s for 600 m. Four Virtues required 1:11.5 for 1000 m, the last 600 m in 41.55, while Flying Tul worked over a round in preparation for Waikato. He ran a fair race there last week and could be an improver this. time. Silver Elm and Bronze Valley were given light tasks after racing op Wednesday. It seems likely both will start in the Foxton Fries Cup tomorrow.
