Dashing sprint by Pronto King

Pronto King widened the range of interest in the second leg of the Hororata T.A.B. double tomorrow with a sharp training sprint at Riccarton yesterday. He cut loose from the 600 m in the hands of his race rider, John Dowling, and returned an impressive 35.7 — an effort that reflected the fast footing provided by the plough, and also the good progress made recently by the six-year-old in pre-

paration for another campaign from Michael Pitman’s stable. Claire’s Reason and Ima Tigress came up with 36.3 s for their 600 m.

The stablemates Black Arrow and Flowing Silver worked away easily from near the 800 m, then quickened for the final 600 m in 37.45.

Hypatia and Echahcadah took 1:22 for their 1200 m, and 38s for the final 600 m. All Signs sprinted from the 800 m in 51.65, the last 600 m in 37.85. Baby Brown worked easily from the 140Qm into the 600 m, then . quickened slightly to finish in 42.85.
