Hornby H.S. wins league
Hornby High School beat Hillmorton High School, 28-6, in a "Press” high school rugby league championship match at the Addington Show Grounds. Both sides were unbeaten before the game, but Hornby led throughout. However, Hillmorton shared in an entertaining match and its speedy left wing, Solosa Piano, had his moment of glory when he claimed the final try in front of about 5000 spectators. The school match was the curtainraiser to Canterbury’s game against Wellington. The “Man of the Match” award went to the Hornby captain and scrum-half, Grant Downing.
