Oil to blame for pollution
The Heathcote , River was polluted by 600 litres of cooking oil early last month, it was said at a Christchurch Drainage Board meeting last evening. According to a preliminary report, the incident occurred on April 6 when oil from Kaban Industries was lost after a delivery
operator, employed by Frreightways New Zealand, Ltd, failed to secure the storage tank’s valve system.
The chairman of the board’s committee, Mr Ron Wilton, said the matter was being investigated further and the board was consulting its solicitor.
