Miners strike
Queensland’s 8000 coal miners have begun the first of a series of 24-hour stoppages to protest against the State’s tough new anti-strike legislation. But the Industrial Affairs Minister, Mr Vince Lester, has ruled out the possibility of the Government using the new laws to take the coal unions to court over the stoppages. He said the laws were only intended as an emergency measure against prolonged, unnecessary and disruptive disputes. — Brisbane.
