Sikh groups fight in London temple

NZPA-Reuter London Four Sikhs were injured and 40 arrested when two rival Sikh groups fought inside a temple with swords, ice picks and daggers, police said. A spokeswoman said the trouble broke out during a regular Sunday meeting at the temple of Crabtree Manor Way in Belvedere, south-east London, when a rival group interrupted the election of temple officials.

She said the rival group — armed with ceremonial swords, ice picks and daggers — burst into the temple, where 150 people, including women and children, were assembled. Sixty policemen broke up the fighting and recovered some of the weapons, she said. The injured had all suffered stab wounds and one of them was in a serious condition, police said.
