National funding scheme proposed
A positive step is to be taken towards increasing stakes for future InterDominion Championship carnivals. A meeting of harness racing officials, held in Melbourne last week, will recommend a formula for boosting prizemoney to the Inter-Dominion Council. The meeting felt that a national funding scheme should be introduced so that all host clubs could maintain acceptable levels of prizemoney. This would provide for an annual funding course drawn from contributions from all tracks hosting the series, plus a percentage of all Australian metropolitan prizemoney being subscribed to a pool to supplement contributions towards stakes from the host clubs.
