Magic Flute for Guineas
NZPA-AAP Brisbane Leading Sydney trainer, Brian Mayfield-Smith, will launch his Brisbane winter carnival assault with Doncaster Handicap winner Magic Flute in the $50,000 Queensland Guineas (1600 m on Saturday. Magic Flute was one of 20 horses left after first Guineas acceptances were taken. Final acceptances are due today. With the stable’s top rider Jim Cassidy suspended and back-up rider, Nigel Tiley, no longer at Nebo Lodge, the ride on Magic Flute has been offered to Wayne Harris. A former top flight apprentice, Harris, now 26, has had a career punctuated by injury.
