Alterations to visitor centre
Alterations and additions are being made to the Arthur’s Pass visitor’s centre. The back of the old building had been taken off, and a new larger area added, said the deputy regional manager of the Conservation Department, Mr Brian Sly, at a North Canterbury National Parks and Reserves Board meeting. The changes, including landscaping and furnishings, would cost about $200,000 and should be finished soon, he said. The additions will include a first-aid room for search and rescue work, a small library and conference room, a staff tearoom, and public toilets.
