Youth hit in eye by slug
A youth will probably lose the sight in an eye after being hit by a slug from a gas-operated air pistol early yesterday. The youth, aged 15, underwent eye surgery in Christchurch Hospital and was reported in a satisfactory condition in the recovery ward yesterday afternoon.
The police said it appeared the victim and another boy, also aged 15, had been playing with two gas-operated air pistols at an Angus Street, Sydenham, house. The slug which entered the boy’s eye is thought to have been fired soon after midnight Police took the two weapons from the address.
A youth is expected to appear in the Children and Young Persons Court today on firearm-related charges.
