P.M. opens Ministry

PA Rotorua

Taxpayers paid for the Public Service and were entitled to demand it be the most dynamic and productive in the world, said the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, in Rotorua. Mr Lange was speaking at the national launching of the Ministry of Forestry and the opening of the $2.5 million Pulp and Paper Research Organisation’s pulp refinery plant.

Mr Lange said the public sector was critical to the economy and vital to New Zealand’s standard of living.

The new ministry was a result of the reform sweeping the Public Service.

He said it was remarkable that some of the old Government departments had performed so well in difficult circumstances.
