Planning Council wishes to appoint a senior secretariat member to work on social policy analysis and to provide support for the Social Monitoring Group (SMG). The SMG is part of the Council’s monitoring programme, which includes the Economic, Population and Income Distribution Monitoring Groups. Preparation of the SMG’s second overview report will fprm a major part of the appointee's work. She/he will also be expected to contribute to the Planning Council’s issueoriented work. This will, involve multi-disciplin-ary exercises, exploring current policy concerns through group work, discussion papers and interaction with other bodies, including government agencies and the voluntary and private sectors. in addition, the appointee will maintain a “watching brief” in the area of social policy (including liaison with the Royal Commission on Social Policy), and will provide a social policy perspective throughout the Council’s programme of work. Applicants should have a university degree in social science, covering a range of disciplines. Post graduate experience in social research and social policy analysis is essential. She/he should have good contacts among policymakers at the central government level and among the social research community, and should have demonstrated the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, policy-oriented setting. Salary is negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience. Appointments to the Planning Council are on contract, for 2-3 years.
