Star Board has class to win metric mile tomorrow

There could be more feathers than fowl for the South Island In the Canterbury Jockey Club’s $26,500 Lion Brown Handicap at Riccarton tomorrow. Star Board, Some Reason, Asti Bay, Call It Quits and possibly Phareef — those North Islanders make for a powerful presence in the first leg of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double. Easter on Wednesday, will find the step up to 1600 m and stiffer company well within his powers if the track remains firm enough for him to show his brilliance to greatest advantage. Some Reason made a favourable first impression at the meeting with an easy win in a class 2 metric mile last Monday, a performance to gain in stature when the runnerup Eye Full went on to win against class 1 performers on Wednesday. Asti Bay was only a

nose away from victory over 1200 m on the first day of the meeting; Call It Quits a battling second to Star Board in the Great Easter; and Phareef just missed victory with his late charge in the 2000 m 3ZB Easter Classic.
