Obituary Mr L. G. L. Copp

One of New Zealand’s best known wheat ' breeders, Mr Leslie George Llewellyn Copp, died on April 6 in Nelson. He retired from the Crop Research Division of the D.S.I.R. in 1974 after 36 years service. He was bom in the United Kingdom in 1914 and came to New Zealand in 1924. He worked at the Cawthron linstitute and the Riwaka Tobacco Research Station during the 1930 s and then joined Sir Otto Frankel at , Lincoln on a war time sugar beet research project. Later Mr Copp moved to wheat breeding and his research contributions have been described by colleagues as substantial and varied within the ; field of applied plant research. 7 He was an honorary life member of the New Zea- - land Genetical Society - and he was also its secre- ' tary from 1958 to 1972.
