Soviet container ship due today
The first fully cellular Soviet container ship to call at Lyttelton Is due to berth at the container terminal today. The Kapiton Artjukh, owned by Fesco, will unload about 100 empty containers before sailing for Dunedin later today, said the ship’s agent. Scales. The 8703-tonne vessel was built in Bulgaria in 1981. She will return to Lyttelton next week to load containers of meat destined for the port of Vostochhy, in the eastern Soviet Union. Russian vessels are bringing containers to Lyttelton about once a month but these are roll-on ships, owned by the Baltic Shipping Company.
