The birthplace of Katherine Mansfield at 25 Tinakori Road, Wellington. The house was built almost exactly a century ago and is now on the Historic Places Trust’s list of buildings considered essential to be preserved. The illustration comes from a new trust handbook, “Historic Buildings of Wellington,” compiled by John Cattell for the New Zealand Historic Places Trust ($12.95, paperback). The book illustrates and describes 65 buildings in the Wellington area that the trust believes have great historical or architectural importance. It also lists a much larger number of Wellington buildings that the trust believes merit preservation or recording. The booklet is a successor to the trust’s first regional survey on the buildings of Canterbury.
