Hadlee’s father glad team is returning
By
NEIL CLARKSON
The father of the Canterbury pace bowler, Richard Hadlee, says he is relieved the New Zealand cricket team is re-
turning home from strifetorn Sri Lanka. Mr Walter Hadlee, a former New Zealand cricket captain and past chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s board of control, said cancelling the tour seemed the sensible thing to do.
“I think people in New
Zealand would think there is every justification for the team's coming home,” Mr Hadlee said from his Christchurch home. He said no authority in Sri Lanka could have assured the New Zealanders’ safety because the promise would not have come from the persons creating the problems.
