Thai ferry capsizes
NZPA-Reuter Bangkok Twelve bodies have been recovered and rescuers are searching for 70 people still missing after a ferry capsized off southern Thailand. The police said 41 people, including several foreign tourists, had survived the accident, which occurred on Saturday night midway between Samui and Phang-ngan islands, about 600 km south of Bangkok. About 120 people were on board the ferry, most of them local people taking traditional Thai New Year holidays, Lieutenant Chaiyut Dinvong told Reuters from Samui.
He was not able to say if any of those missing were foreigners. The police suspected that the boat foundered during a squall because it was overloaded .
