N.Z. Metropolitan fields for tomorrow

A late entry fee of $2OOO has been paid for six of the 14 contenders for honours in the John Brandon Three-Year-Old Championship, the feature race on the first night of the Metropolitan Club’s Easter meeting at Addington Raceway tomorrow. The horses concerned are Arabian Blue, Elmer Gantry, Emcee, Race Ruler, Shapiro and United Blue Chip. A late entry fee has also been made for Noble Fella, which will probably start in the final two legs of the John Brandon Series.

Megatrend has drawn No. 12 and That’s That No. 13 in what is the first leg of the T.A.B. double. This will place them at a big disadvantage in a field of great strength.

Particular interest will centre in the fresh appearances of Bionic Chance and Race Ruler, both of which have been away from racing for some weeks. They were the top two-year-olds of last season and their form earlier this season was outstanding. A handicap event for C 5 and faster trotters, the Guthrey’s Tour Handicap, has been selected as the second leg of the double. The T.A.B. treble will be run on races three, four and five, with race six the T.A.B. trifecta event. An on-course treble will be run on races eight, nine and 10. A jackpot, starting with a pool of $2131, will be run on races five to nine inclusive.
