Art award prizes increase
The Lindauer Art Award will this year have a total value of $ll,OOO making it one of the most valuable awards in the country. The awards of $7OOO, $2OOO and $lOOO as well as merit and popular choice awards of $lOOO represent substantial support from Montana Wines for young artists in New Zealand.
The award has been developed to encourage young and emerging artists and to provide greater national exposure for them and their work. As an extension of this concept of greater exposure, last year a selection of 35 of the leading works
from among the 1986 entries toured. This exhibition was taken to Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland where it was shown with great success.
In 1987 the aim is to show a representative exhibition of the leading works in the same centres during June and July, following the announcement of the winners at Gisborne in early May.
The Lindauer Art Award is named after the colonial artist, Gottfried Lindauer, and the premium Methode Champenoise wine which Montana named in his honour. The award is organised and co-ordinated by the Gisborne Artists’ Society.
