Ayckbourn’s comedy

Alan Ayckbourn’s “A Chorus of Disapproval” revolves around the attractions of Guy Jones for the opposite sex. The play traces the chaos that unfolds during three months of rehearsals by an amateur operatic society for a project way beyond it: “The Beggar’s Opera.” Guy Jones, recently widowed is in the cast. His only attribute is his amazing attraction for women. Since most of their

husbands or fiancees are also in the cast the result is confusion, outbursts and stormy departures. In the wake of the exodus Guy rises far beyond his abilities to leading role. The play is directed by Elizabeth Moody and opens at the Court Theatre on March 21. Alistair Browning, returning to the company after touring Western Australia with Dennis Waterman in Tom Stoppard’s “The Real Thing,”

plays Guy Jones. Also returning from other projects are Paul Barrett, June Harvest, Ross Gumbley, Craig Hood, Bill le Marquand and Geoffrey Wearing. The cast is completed by Geraldine Brophy, Deborah Davids, Lloyd Edwards, Michele Amas, Antony Hodgsen, Judie Douglass and Caroline Claver. The season of “Chorus of Disapproval” has been sponsored by the Trust Bank Canterbury.
