School committee polls
School committee elections, for intermediate and area schools, will be held at schools tomorrow evening. Nominations will be taken at the meetings. •
“Local administration of schools is a very important function within a community,” said the Canterbury Education Board’s general manager, Mr Keith McNeil. “The work with and for children can be very rewarding,” he said. The board’s chairman, Mr David Waghorn, said:
“With changes such as the introduction of taha Maori, the new health syllabus and others, committees will have an increasingly important part to play in making recommendations on changes.” People should attend to give support to their members, said Mr Waghorn. For intermediate schools, eligible voters are parents of pupils, including parents of pupils attending contributing schools. For area schools, parents of pupils are eligible.
